Hamburg

Hamburg (German language pronunciation: ; , ) is the second largest city in Germany and along with Hamburg Harbour, its principal port, Hamburg is also the second largest port city in Europe, ninth largest port in the world, and the largest city in the European Union which is not a national capital. The official name Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (; ) refers to Hamburg's membership in the medieval Hanseatic League and the fact that Hamburg is a City State and one of the sixteen Federal States of Germany. Hamburg is on the southern tip of the Jutland Peninsula, centered between Continental Europe to the south, Scandinavia to the north, the North Sea to the west, and the Baltic Sea to the east. The city of Hamburg lies at the junction of the River Elbe with the rivers Alster and Bille. The city center is set around two lakes, the Binnenalster ("Inner Alster") and the Außenalster ("Outer Alster").

Die Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg (niederdeutsch Hamborg) ist als Stadtstaat ein Land Deutschlands, zweitgrößte Stadt Deutschlands, siebtgrößte der Europäischen Union sowie die größte Stadt in der Europäischen Union, die nicht die Hauptstadt eines Mitgliedsstaates ist. Hamburg ist Mittelpunkt der europäischen Metropolregion Hamburg, eine der insgesamt elf europäischen Metropolregionen in Deutschland.Der Wahlspruch Hamburgs lautet: Libertatem quam peperere maiores digne studeat servare posteritas (Die Freiheit, die erwarben die Alten, möge die Nachwelt würdig erhalten) und findet sich als Inschrift über dem Portal des Rathauses. Die latinisierte Form des Stadtnamens (etwa in der Stadthymne) ist Hammonia.

Hamburg (niem. Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg, łac. Hammonia, dosł. Wolne i Hanzeatyckie Miasto Hamburg) to miasto w północnych Niemczech na prawach kraju związkowego niedaleko ujścia Łaby do Morza Północnego. Wolne miasto i zarazem związkowy kraj niemiecki (pow. 755 km², ludność 1,74 mln – drugie po Berlinie). Największy port morski kraju (75 mln ton przeładunku), wielki ośrodek przemysłowy (statki, elektrotechnika, przetwórstwo ropy, przemysł spożywczy) i finansowy. Port lotniczy, węzeł drogowy i kolejowy. W Hamburgu (w północnej dzielnicy Ohlsdorf) znajduje się największy cmentarz na świecie (pow. 400 hektarów). Hamburg jest siedzibą 100 konsulatów i zajmuje w tym drugie miejsce na świecie (po Hongkongu).

Amburgo (in tedesco Hamburg o Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg – Città Libera e Anseatica di Amburgo) è la più grande città della Germania dopo Berlino, ed il suo porto principale; essa infatti è anche la seconda più grande città portuale dell'Unione Europea. Per numero di abitanti è seconda in Germania alla sola Berlino ed in Europa è la seconda città non capitale per popolazione (segue San Pietroburgo ma precede Barcellona).
