Halfpipe

A half-pipe is a structure used in gravity extreme sports such as snowboarding, skateboarding, skiing, freestyle BMX and inline skating. The structure is usually wood, although sometimes the surface is made of another material. In appearance, it resembles a cross section of a swimming-pool, and in its most basic form, it consists of two concave ramps (or quarterpipes), topped by copings and decks, facing each other across a transition. Originally half-pipes were simply half sections of a large pipe. Since the 1980s, half-pipes have had extended flat ground (the flat bottom) between the quarterpipes and the original style half-pipes have become deprecated. The flat ground gives the athlete time to regain balance after landing and more time to prepare for the next trick.

Eine Halfpipe (engl. für Halbröhre) ist eine aus Beton, Holz, Metall oder Schnee konstruierte Sportanlage in Form einer in der Längsachse halbierten Röhre. Sie dient in diversen Freestyle-Sportarten (vorwiegend Skateboard, Snowboard und Aggressive Inline) als Basis für artistische Manöver und ist im Schnee mittlerweile eine olympische Disziplin. Es gibt auch halbe Halfpipes, die als Quarterpipes (engl. für Viertelröhre) bezeichnet werden.

Half-pipe – struktura używana w sportach ekstremalnych, takich jak snowboarding, skateboarding, freestyle BMX czy inline skating. Najczęściej konstrukcja jest drewniana, chociaż czasem podłoże jest stworzone z innego materiału. Na strukturę składają się dwie wklęsłe rampy (lub quarter pipe'y), zakończone copingiem. Pierwotnie half-pipe'y były częściami większych kanałów. Do 1980 half-pipe'y miały szerokie podłoże (flat bottom) pomiędzy quarter pipe’ami, a ich początkowy styl stał się unikatowy. Płaskie podłoże pozwala sportowcowi odzyskać balans po wylądowaniu oraz przygotować się do wykonania następnego triku.
