Haikou , is the capital and most populous city of Hainan province, People's Republic of China. It is situated on the northern coast of Hainan, by the mouth of the Nandu River. The northern part of the city is the district of Haidian Island, which is separated from the main part of Haikou by the Haidian River, a branch of the Nandu.

Haikou - früher auch Hoihow geschrieben - ist eine bezirksfreie Stadt im Norden der Provinz Hainan in der Volksrepublik China und ist auch deren Hauptstadt und wirtschaftliches Zentrum. Das Verwaltungsgebiet der Stadt hat eine Fläche von 2.305 km² und Ende 2004 ca. 1,71 Millionen Einwohner (Aufenthaltsbevölkerung, davon mit Hauptwohnsitz: 1,43 Millionen).
