Habitat

Habitat (which is Latin for "it inhabits") is the area where a particular species lives. It is essentially the natural environment in which an organism lives—at least the physical environment—that surrounds (influences and is utilized by) a species  population. We use "species population" instead of "organism" here because, while it is possible to describe the habitat of a single black bear, we generally may not find any particular or individual bear, but the grouping of bears that comprise a breeding population and occupy a certain geographical area. Further, this habitat could be somewhat different from the habitat of another group or population of black bears living elsewhere. Thus, it is neither the species, nor the individual, for which the term habitat is typically used. A microhabitat or microenvironment is the immediate surroundings and other physical factors of an individual plant or animal within its habitat.

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN–HABITAT) is the United Nations agency for human settlements. It was established in 1978 and has its headquarters at the UN office in Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

L'habitat est un concept utilisé dans le domaine de l'écologie pour décrire l'endroit - ou plus précisément les caractéristiques du « milieu » - dans lequel une population d'individus d'une espèce donnée (ou d'un groupe d'espèces symbiotes ou vivant en guilde...) peuvent normalement vivre et s'épanouir ; Il faudrait normalement parler de lhabitat d'une population' plutôt que d'une espèce ou d'un "organisme", car s'il est par exemple possible de décrire précisément l'habitat d'un seul ours des Pyrénées, l'espèce Ursus arctos devrait être constituée d'une « métapopulation » divisée en nombreux groupes dindividus (sous-populations) vivant dans des habitats plus variés que ceux dans lesquels les derniers individus de cette espèce tentent de survivre ; cette espèce était autrefois commune dans toute l'Europe, des littoraux aux basses-montagnes. En termes de biotopes, les pyrénées ne sont en rien représentatifs de leur habitat optimal. Ils ne constituent que leur dernier refuge, celui où ils ont été le moins traqués et chassés.

Program Narodów Zjednoczonych ds. Osiedli Ludzkich (United Nations Human Settlements Programme – UN-HABITAT) - agenda ONZ zajmująca się kwestiami urbanizacji i osiedli ludzkich, w tym promocją zrównoważonego rozwoju ośrodków miejskich. Powstała w 1978 w następstwie Pierwszej Konferencji ds. Habitatu (tzw. Habitat I, Vancouver, 1976). Początkowo działała jako United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (UNCHS - Habitat). Na mocy rezolucji Zgromadzenia Ogólnego NZ nr A/56/206 (z 1 stycznia 2002) przekształcona w pełnoprawny program ONZ, z Radą Zarządzającą na czele.

L'habitat (termine latino che significa abita) è il luogo le cui caratteristiche fisiche o abiotiche, e quelle biotiche possono permettere ad una data specie di vivere e svilupparsi. È essenzialmente l'ambiente che può circondare una popolazione di una specie. Attenzione: è importante precisare che nonostante i due termini siano spesso usati impropriamente come sinonimi mentre lhabitat indica il luogo fisico, la nicchia ecologica indica il 'ruolo della specie all'interno dell'ecosistema.Usiamo "popolazione di una specie" invece di "organismo" qui perché, mentre è possibile descrivere l'habitat di singolo orso nero, non intendiamo generalmente un orso particolare o specifico, ma il raggruppamento degli orsi di una data popolazione che occupano una certa zona geografica. Inoltre, questo habitat potrebbe essere in qualche modo differente dall'habitat di un altro gruppo o popolazione di orsi che vivono altrove. Quindi, il termine habitat non è usato tipicamente né per la specie, né per l'individuo. Microhabitat o microambiente indica i dintorni immediati ed altri fattori fisici di una pianta o di un animale specifici all'interno del relativo habitat.
