Chabad (חב"ד ) is a Hebrew acronym for "חכמה Chochmah, בינה Binah, דעת Da'at" ("Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge"). Lubavitch, taken from the Russian Любавичи, Lyubavichi, is the name of the town that served as the movement's headquarters for over a century.
