Hmar People's convention (HPC), werd opgericht in 1986. Zij is representatief voor het Hmar volk. Oorspronklijk was HPC een gewone politieke partij in noordoost Mizoram. Maar in 1987 veranderde die koers. Zij waagden de wapens op te nemen tegen India. Eerst streefden zij voor meer autonomie. Maar sinds 1991 streefden zij naar onafhanklijkheid. Zij zelf spreken van een Greater Mizoram, het hele gebied waar het Hmar volk woont. De HPC staat nu onder leiding van Lalrupui.
