HERERO

The Herero are a people belonging to the Bantu group, with about 120,000 members alive today. The majority of the Herero live in Namibia, with the remainder living in Botswana and Angola. Most are employed as workers on large farms or earn their living as merchants or tradesmen in the cities. The Ovaherero comprise several subgroups, including the Ovahimba, the Ovatjimba, the Ovambanderu and the vaKwandu. During the colonial period, Europeans attempted to define these as separate ethnic groups, but the people consider themselves all to be Ovaherero. They speak Herero as well as Portuguese in Angola, English in both Botswana and Namibia, and Afrikaans in Namibia.

Les Héréros sont un peuple africain du groupe linguistique bantou parlant le héréro, constitué actuellement d'environ personnes. La plupart d'entre eux vivent en Namibie, quelques groupes au Botswana et d'autres en Angola, où ils occupent des emplois peu qualifiés d'ouvriers agricoles pour les ruraux, ou de domestiques ou vendeurs de rues pour les citadins.

Die Herero (ursprünglich Mbandu genannt) sind ein die Bantusprache Herero sprechendes afrikanisches Hirtenvolk von heute etwa 120.000 Menschen. Die Mehrheit von ihnen lebt in Namibia, einige auch in Botsuana und Angola. Sie verdienen ihren Lebensunterhalt meist als Arbeiter auf großen Farmen oder in den Städten als Händler und Handwerker. Ein oft als Teilgruppe behandeltes Volk sind die im Kaokoveld lebenden Himba, auch Ova-Herero genannt.

Hererowie (Herero) - lud zamieszkujący południową część Afryki (głównie Namibię oraz w niewielkiej liczbie Botswanę i Angolę). Hererowie należą do grupy ludów Bantu i obecnie liczą ok. 120 tys. Większość z nich znajduje zatrudnienie w rolnictwie lub pracuje w miastach w sektorze handlowym. Posiadają swój własny język herero, natomiast w Angoli używają jeszcze portugalskiego, a w Namibii angielskiego i Afrikaans.Na początku zajmowali się głównie pasterstwem. W XVII i XVIII w. przybyli ze wschodu na tereny Namibii. Pod koniec XIX w. między Hererami a Niemcami (którzy założyli tu swoją kolonię - Niemiecką Afrykę Południowo-Zachodnią) zaczęły wybuchać spory o ziemię i dostęp do wodopojów.

Sono circa 120.000, la maggior parte dei quali in Namibia, con gruppi minori in Botswana e Angola.La maggior parte degli Herero lavora nelle grandi fattorie, o si dedica al commercio nelle città. L'etnia Herero comprende diversi sottogruppi, quali gli Tjimba e gli Ndamuranda (Kaokoland), i Maherero (zona di Okahandja), deli Zearaua (zona di Omaruru), i Mbanderu (Hereroland) e i Kwandu, che comunque si considerano tutti "Herero". Un gruppo strettamente correlato, che discende da un gruppo di Herero che fuggirono in Angola all'inizio del XX secolo, sono gli Himba.
