High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) is a bit-oriented synchronous data link layer protocol developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Le HDLC (sigle anglais pour High-Level Data Link Control) est un protocole de niveau 2 (couche de liaison) du Modèle OSI, dérivé de SDLC (Synchronous Data Link Control). Son but est de définir un mécanisme pour délimiter des trames de différents types, en ajoutant un contrôle d'erreur. Il est défini par l'Organisation internationale de normalisation sous la spécification ISO3309.

High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) ist ein von der ISO normiertes Netzprotokoll. Es ist innerhalb des ISO/OSI-Modells in Schicht 2, der Sicherungsschicht einzugliedern. HDLC basiert in seiner Grundstruktur auf dem SDLC-Protokoll, darüber hinaus gibt es das proprietäre Cisco HDLC.

High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) è un protocollo bit oriented, usa la tecnica del bit stuffing (inserimento/eliminazione di zeri).Gli standard ISO originali erano:ISO 0009 — Struttura dei frameISO 4335 ISO 6159 ISO 6256 Lo standard attuale è ISO 13239, che rimpiazza tutti questi. HDLC può utilizzare o meno la modalità connessa. Può essere usato per connessioni punto a punto, ma adesso è usato quasi esclusivamente per collegare due dispositivi, usando la ABM (Asynchronous Balanced Mode). Le altre modalità disponibili sono NRM (Normal Response Mode) e ARM (Asynchronous Response Mode).
