A dangerous good is any solid, liquid, or gas that can harm people, other living organisms, property, or the environment. An equivalent term, used almost exclusively in the United States, is hazardous material (hazmat). Dangerous goods may be radioactive, flammable, explosive, toxic, corrosive, biohazardous, an oxidizer, an asphyxiant, a pathogen, an allergen, or may have other characteristics that render it hazardous in specific circumstances.

Als Gefahrgut (engl. Dangerous goods, amerik. engl. Hazardous material, kurz hazmat) bezeichnet man Stoffe, Zubereitungen (Gemische, Gemenge, Lösungen) und Gegenstände, welche Stoffe enthalten, von denen aufgrund ihrer Natur, ihrer physikalischen oder chemischen Eigenschaften oder ihres Zustandes beim Transport bestimmte Gefahren fürdie öffentliche Sicherheit oder Ordnung, insbesondere für die Allgemeinheit,wichtige Gemeingüter,Leben und Gesundheit von Menschen, Tieren und anderen Sachen ausgehen können und die aufgrund von Rechtsvorschriften als gefährliche Güter einzustufen sind.
