Hawk
The term hawk refers to
birds of prey in any of three senses:In strict use in
Europe and
Asia, to mean any of the
species in the bird
subfamily Accipitrinae in the
genera Accipiter,
Micronisus,
Melierax,
Urotriorchis, and
Megatriorchis. The large and widespread Accipiter genus includes
goshawks,
sparrowhawks , the
Sharp-shinned Hawk and others. They are mainly woodland birds that hunt by sudden dashes from a concealed perch. They typically have long tails and high visual acuity.More generally, especially in
North America, to mean small to medium-sized birds that are members of the
Pandionidae (the Osprey) and
Accipitridae - the family which includes the "true hawks" (Accipiters) and also
eagles,
kites,
harriers,
buzzards, and
Old World vultures.Loosely, to mean almost any
bird of prey outside of the order
Strigiformes (owls). The common names of birds in various parts of the world often use hawk in the second sense. For example, in North America, the Buteo species are known as hawks (e.g., the
Red-tailed Hawk, B. jamaicensis).

The
Raytheon MIM-23 HAWK is an
American medium range
surface-to-air missile. HAWK is an acronym or possibly a
backronym for Homing All the Way Killer. The HAWK was initially designed to destroy aircraft and was later adapted to destroy other missiles in flight. The missile entered service in 1960, and a program of extensive upgrades has kept it from becoming obsolete. It was superseded by the
MIM-104 Patriot in
United States Army service by 1994. It was finally phased out of US service in 2002, the last users, the
US Marine Corps replacing it with the man-portable ir-guided visual range
FIM-92 Stinger. The missile was also produced outside the US in Western Europe and
Japan.

américains. Le Hawk avait été initialement conçu pour détruire des aéronefs et a ensuite été modifié pour détruire des missiles en vol. Le missile est entré en service en 1962, et fut l'objet d'un vaste programme de mise à niveau afin d'éviter qu'il ne devienne obsolète trop rapidement. Il a été remplacé par le
MIM-104 Patriot aux
États-Unis en 1994 et a finalement été retiré du service des États-Unis en 2002. le dernier utilisateur se trouvant être l'
US Marine Corps qui la remplacé par le missile portatif
FIM-92 Stinger. Ce missile a également été produit en dehors des États-Unis en Europe occidentale et au Japon.

HAWK (engl. für Falke oder Habicht) war ein mobiles, allwetterfähiges
Flugabwehrraketensystem aus den frühen
1960er Jahren. Hersteller war die US-amerikanische Firma
Raytheon. Das System wurde in den Jahren 1959/1960 in der US-Army eingeführt. Bis heute wurde das System in unterschiedlichen Konfigurationen an 25 Staaten der Welt - darunter auch Deutschland - verkauft.

Il MIM-23 HAWK è un
missile terra-aria (SAM - Surface-to-Air Missile) di fabbricazione
statunitense. Il suo nome, che significa
Falco in
inglese, è un’acronimo di Homing All the Way Killer, ovvero uccisore che attacca da ogni direzione. Probabilmente un acrostico creato successivamente.Si tratta di un missile SAM a medio raggio con guida radar semiattiva, entrato in servizio nel 1960 e da allora numerose volte aggiornato. È un’arma simile all’SA-3 ma con un apparato di guida più simile all’SA-6. In servizio ha avuto molto successo, tanto che a metà anni ’80 ne erano stati costruiti qualcosa come 40.000 e la produzione avrebbe avuto lugo ancora per qualche anno almeno.Nonostante sia stato radiato dagli
Stati Uniti nel 1997,è ancora in uso in diverse parti del mondo.
