HAVASUPAI

The Havasu ’Baaja (meaning the-people-of-the-blue-green-waters), or more commonly the Havasupai, are a Native American tribe located in the northwestern part of the American state of Arizona. The tribe is well-known for being the only permanent inhabitants in the Grand Canyon, where they have lived for over 800 years. It also holds the distinction of being one of only two places left in America that still uses the Pony Express, Phantom Ranch being the other. But the main "claim-to-fame" for the Tribe is its richly colored waters and its awe-inspiring waterfalls, both of which have made this small community become a bustling tourist hub that attracts thousands of people every year.

Die Havasupai, auch Supai oder Coconino genannt, sind ein Yuma sprechender Indianerstamm aus der Hoka-Sprachfamilie und leben im nordwestlichen Arizona, USA. Der Name ist eine Verfremdung ihres Eigennamens Havasupaipaa und bedeutet Volk am blau-grünem Wasser. Die Walapai und Yavapai zählen zu den verwandten Stämmen, mit denen sie zusammen die Gruppe der Hochland-Yuma bilden.

Hawasupajowie albo Havasupai - plemię Indian Ameryki Północnej należące do grupy plemion Indian znad rzeki Kolorado (ang. Colorado River Indian Tribes - CRIT). Nazwa plemienia oznacza "Lud znad błękitno-zielonej wody", ale w języku spokrewnionych z nimi Hualapajów nazywano ich po prostu Pai, czyli ludźmi. Od roku około 1100 mieszkali w Kanionie Katarakt, stanowiącym fragment Wielkiego Kanionu i na okolicznym płaskowzgórzu. Mówili językiem z jumańskiej rodziny językowej.

Los Havasupai (en ocasiones llamados también Havasu 'Baaja) son una tribu amerindia que habita la región del oeste del Gran Cañón en el estado estadounidense de Arizona. La tribu tiene unos 650 integrantes, gobernados por el Concilio Tribal, cuyos miembros son elegidos cada siete años. El centro tribal es el pueblo de Supai, Arizona, accesible solamente a pie, caballo o helicóptero.
