HAL (Software)
Die Software HAL ermöglicht es als Hardwareabstraktionsschicht Anwendungen, Informationen über die Hardware abzurufen und Anweisungen an die Hardware zu geben. Mit HAL können Anwendungen flexibel auf neu angeschlossene Geräte reagieren. Um die Berechtigung von Anweisungen zu überprüfen, verwendet HAL PolicyKit. Der GNOME Device Manager nutzt HAL, um Informationen über die Hardware anzuzeigen. Basierend auf den Erfahrungen des HAL-Projekts ist DeviceKit als zukünftiger Ersatz geplant.

HAL ou Camada de abstração de Hardware, em inglês significa Hardware Abstract Layer é um software de código aberto que permite que outros softwares acessem funções e obtenham informações do sistema operacional e de hardwares com muito menos dificuldade se tivessem que escrever um software diretamente utilizando funções do hardware, o HAL serve para abstrair essas informações facilmente utilizando a Camada de abstracção de hardware presente em todos os sistemas operacionais.

HAL (software)
HAL es una capa de abstracción de hardware software que permite a las aplicaciones de escritorio tengan acceso a información de hardware.
Está disponible bajo la licencia GNU General Public Licence y Acadamic Free Licence, es software libre.
Con HAL, toda la información sobre ciertas clases de hardware es accesible en un único formato. Cuando un nuevo dispositivo es añadido al sistema, una señal asíncrona es situada en el bus del sistema de mensajes detallando el tipo de dispositivo que ha sido añadido. Scripts del sistema pueden configurar el dispositivo.. Es decir, HAL soporta plug and play.
