Hail
Hail is a form of
precipitation which consists of balls or irregular lumps of ice (hailstones). Hailstones on
Earth usually consist mostly of
water ice and measure between 5 and 50
millimetres in diameter, with the larger stones coming from severe
thunderstorms. Hail is always produced by
cumulonimbi (thunderclouds), usually at the front of the storm system, and is composed of transparent ice or alternating layers of transparent and translucent ice at least 1 mm thick. Small hailstones are less than 5 mm in diameter, and are reported as
SHGS. Unlike
ice pellets, they are layered and can be irregular and clumped together.

Grêle
La grêle est un type de
précipitation qui se forme dans des
orages particulièrement forts lorsque l'air est très humide et que les courants ascendants sont puissants. Elle prend la forme de billes de glace (grêlons) dont le diamètre peut varier de quelques millimètres à une dizaine de centimètres. Le code
METAR de la grêle est GR.

Hagel
Hagel ist eine Form von
Niederschlag, die aus Eisklumpen besteht. Zur Abgrenzung spricht man erst bei einem Durchmesser von über 0,5 Zentimetern von Hagel bzw. Eishagel, darunter von
Graupel. Bei Aggregaten von Schneeflocken mit einem Durchmesser unter einem Millimeter spricht man von
Griesel.
