Hörspiel

Hörspiel is a form of German storytelling broadcast that mixes radio documentary, soundscape, music, various narrators and sound editing techniques to help the listener imagine the story. It should not be confused with the art form audio book, which mainly consists of recital by only one narrator and usually without soundscape and music. It is more closely related to radio drama, but the musical component in German broadcasts is typically more substantial.

Das Hörspiel ist eine dramatisierte Inszenierung mit verteilten Sprecherrollen und die erste originäre Kunstform, die das Radio hervorgebracht hat. Es ist ein eigenständiges literarisches Genre, vergleichbar mit dem Roman, der Novelle oder dem Drama. Die Entwicklung des Hörspiels ist eng mit der Geschichte von Theater und Film verbunden, zu denen es jedoch auch immer in Konkurrenz stand.
