Gulf of Riga

The Gulf of Riga, or Bay of Riga, is a bay of the Baltic Sea between Latvia and Estonia.The area of the Gulf of Riga is about 18,000 km². The maximum depth is 54 m. The island of Saaremaa (Estonia) partially separates it from the rest of the Baltic Sea. The main exit ouf of the gulf is the Irbe Strait. Ruhnu island, in the middle of the gulf, also belongs to Estonia.Notable cities in this gulf include Riga and Pärnu. The main rivers flowing into the gulf are the Daugava, the Lielupe, the Gauja, and the Salaca.

Le Golfe de Riga est un golfe européen de l’est de la mer Baltique qui borde le sud de l’Estonie et la Lettonie. L’île estonienne de Saaremaa en délimite l’entrée au nord et le détroit d’Irbe ouvre à l’est sur la mer. Le Golfe comprend également les petites îles de Kihnu et de Ruhnu Saar.

Der Rigaische Meerbusen ist eine große Bucht der Ostsee zwischen Lettland und Estland. Von der restlichen Ostsee wird sie durch die estnische Insel Saaremaa (Ösel) unvollständig abgeriegelt. Wichtigste Städte am Rigaischen Meerbusen sind Riga und Pärnu (Pernau).

Zatoka Ryska, łot Rīgas jūras līcis, est. Liivi Laht, zatoka Morza Bałtyckiego pomiędzy Łotwą a Estonią. Powierzchnia Zatoki Ryskiej wynosi około 18 tysięcy km². Maksymalna głębokość wynosi 62 m; zasolenie 3,5-6 promili. Estońska wyspa Sarema (oraz znacznie od niej mniejsza - Muhu) odgradza zatokę od szerszych wód Morza Bałtyckiego. Zatoka z Morzem Bałtyckim połączona jest cieśninami Muhu Våin na północy i Irbeńska na północnym zachodzie. Oprócz wymienionych dwóch, w Zatoce Ryskiej znajduje się jeszcze kilka mniejszych wysepek (wszystkie należą do Estonii), a wśród nich najważniejsze: Kihnu, Ruhnu'', Abruka i Manilaid

De Golf van Riga (Lets: Rigas Juras licis, Estisch: Liivi laht) is het gedeelte van de Oostzee tussen de kust van Letland, de zuidwestkust van Estland en het Estische eiland Saaremaa. In dit water mondt de rivier de Westelijke Dvina uit: bij deze monding ligt de naamgever van de golf: de Letse hoofdstad Riga. De Estische stad Pärnu is de andere grotere stad aan de Golf van Riga.
