Guanine (G, Gua) is one of the four main nucleobases found in the nucleic acids DNA and RNA, the others being adenine, cytosine, and thymine (uracil in RNA). In DNA, guanine is paired with cytosine. With the formula C₅H₅N₅O, guanine is a derivative of purine, consisting of a fused pyrimidine-imidazole ring system with conjugated double bonds. Being unsaturated, the bicyclic molecule is planar. The guanine nucleoside is called guanosine.

Guanin ist als eine der vier Nukleinbasen Grundbaustein von DNA und RNA; es ist aber auch in anderen biologisch bedeutsamen Molekülen vorhanden, beispielsweise im Guanosintriphosphat (GTP).

La guanine est une base azotée, et plus exactement une base purique (voir aussi ADN et ARN). On la trouve sous forme de nucléotide : dans l'ADN c'est la dGMP pour désoxyguanosine monophosphate, et dans l'ARN la GMP pour guanosine monophosphate. La guanine s'apparie avec la cytosine dans l'ADN comme dans l'ARN.

Guanin är en av kvävebaserna som ingår i de nukleotider som bygger upp DNA och RNA. Liksom adenin är det en purin och består av två ringar av kol- och kväve-atomer. I DNA och RNA binder sig guanin via tre vätebindningar till den komplementerande basen cytosin.

Guanina - C₅H₅N₅O - 2-amino-6-oksypuryna - jest jedną z podstawowych jednostek budujących kwasy nukleinowe (DNA i RNA). Guanina należy do puryn. Tworzy komplementarną parę z cytozyną (C).
