Guangdong
Guangdong (formerly spelled "Kwangtung") is a
province on the south coast of the
People's Republic of China. Sometimes, "Canton Province" (based on a
French-derived
transliteration of "Guangdong") is used to mean Guangdong. Hence, the local people and their language is referred to as
Cantonese. This is as opposed to "Canton (City)", which refers to the city of
Guangzhou, the provincial capital. Guangdong was also the homeland and base of operations of
Sun Yat-Sen, the widely accepted founder of modern China. Additionally, a majority of the overseas Chinese who settled in the Western world originate from Guangdong.

Le Guangdong (廣東 / 广东 ;

pinyin Guǎngdōng) est une
province côtière du sud de la
Chine. Éloigné de Pékin, et des grands centres politiques de la Chine historique, le Guangdong présente des spécificités assez marqées. La langue la plus parlée est le cantonais, une langue nettement disctincte du mandarin. Le Guangdong a connu une croissance économique particulièrement rapide depuis les années 1980, ce qui a provoqué une forte immigration. Il est devenu dans les années 2000 la^province la plus peuplée de Chine.

Guangdong (, auf Deutsch auch Kanton) ist eine
Provinz im Süden der
Volksrepublik China. Ihr Name bedeutet Weiter Osten und stammt aus der Zeit, als Guangdong gerade von den Chinesen besiedelt wurde und noch ein weites, unbewohntes Gebiet war. Die von diesem Namen abgeleitete Bezeichnung Kanton wird im Westen für die Hauptstadt
Guangzhou gebraucht, seltener für die Provinz selbst. Weitere wichtige Städte in Guangdong sind
Shantou,
Shenzhen,
Zhanjiang und
Zhuhai.
