Ground Lift

The ground lift switch on audio equipment disconnects pin 1 on the XLR jack. Pin 1 on XLR cables is connected to the braid or foil shield in the cable. Disconnecting the audio equipment (preamp, etc.) from the shield can stop unwanted hum or current from flowing between the two devices, but is non-conforming with audio standard AES48.
