Griqua
The Griqua (
Afrikaans Griekwa, sometimes called Korana) are a subgroup of
South Africa's heterogeneous and
multiracial Coloured people. The Griqua are often considered to be a racially and culturally mixed people whose origin goes back to the intermarriages or sexual relations between European colonists in the
Cape and the
Khoikhoi already living there in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This notion apparently derives from the name given in 1813 by Rev. John Campbell (London Missionary Society) to a mixed group of Grigriqua (a Cape Khoikhoi group), 'bastaards', Koranna, and Tswana living at the site of present day Griekwastad (formerly "Klaarwater"). According to Isaac Tirion, by 1730 the Grigriquas already lived in this northeastern section of the Cape Colony.

Les Griqualand West Griquas (
afrikaans : Grikwas) sont une équipe sud-africaine de
rugby à XV qui participe chaque année à la
Currie Cup. Pour des raisons de sponsoring, elle est aussi appelée Wildeklawer Griquas, du nom d’une entreprise maraîchère, spécialisée dans la production des oignons et des pommes de terre. Elle joue avec un maillot bleu canard cerclé de blanc et évolue au ABSA Park de
Kimberley dans l’
État libre. Le Griqualand West est une région appartenant historiquement à la province du
Cap-du-Nord. Les
Griquas sont un peuple métis originaire de cette région.

De Griekwa zijn een bevolkingsgroep in
Zuid-Afrika. Zij zijn nakomelingen van enerzijds de
Khoikhoi en anderzijds de
Boeren. Zij woonden in eigen gemeenschappen en onderhielden nauwe contacten met de Boeren, van wie zij de taal en het geloof overnamen. Zij zijn verwant aan de
Basters in
Namibië die een gelijkaardige afkomst hebben.
