In Norse mythology, Gríðr (sometimes Anglicized Grid) was a giantess who, aware of Loki's plans to get Thor killed at the hands of the giant Geirröd, helped Thor by supplying him with a number of magical gifts which included a girdle (belt) of might, a pair of iron gloves, and a staff known as Grídarvöl. These items saved Thor's life. She is also the mother of Vidar by Odin.

Sie oder eine Namensschwester erscheint als eine Hexe in der Illuga saga Gríðarfóstra.

GRID - rodzaj typu odwzorowania przestrzeni w GIS. Łączy zalety wektora oraz rastra. Ma postać regularnej siatki, na której przypisano atrybuty w miejscu przecięcia się linii. Punkt przecięcia siatki ma wymiar 0, jednakże zasięg atrybutu definiowany jest poprzez wymiar "oczka" siatki. Ten typ odwzorowania przestrzeni znajduje zastosowanie przede wszystkim w przedstawianiu powierzchni ciągłych, gdyż ułatwia ich odwzorowanie za pomocą trójwymiarowego konturu.

Il termine Grid computing (letteralmente, "calcolo a griglia") sta ad indicare un paradigma del calcolo distribuito, di recente introduzione, costituito da un'infrastruttura altamente decentralizzata e di natura variegata in grado di consentire ad un vasto numero di utenti l'utilizzo di risorse (prevalentemente CPU e storage) provenienti da un numero indistinto di calcolatori (anche e soprattutto di potenza non particolarmente elevata) interconnessi da una rete (solitamente, ma non necessariamente, Internet). Il termine "griglia" deriva dalla similitudine fatta dai primi ideatori del Grid Computing secondo i quali in un prossimo futuro si sarebbe arrivati a poter reperire risorse di calcolo con la stessa facilita' con la quale oggi si puo' usufruire dell'energia elettrica, ovvero semplicemente attaccandosi ad una delle tante prese presenti nel nostro appartamento Power grid.
