Grenache

Grenache (pronounced gren-ash) (in Spanish, Garnacha) is probably the most widely planted variety of red wine grape in the world. It ripens late, so needs hot, dry conditions such as those found in Spain and in the south of France. It is generally spicy, berry-flavoured and soft on the palate with a relatively high alcohol content, but it needs careful control of yields for best results. It tends to lack acid, tannin and colour, and is usually blended with other varieties such as Syrah, Carignan and Cinsaut.

Le grenache (ou grenache noir) est un cépage rouge donnant un vin fort, fruité et intensément coloré. Il est cultivé dans le Midi de la France, en Espagne, en Italie, au Maghreb, en Californie et en Australie. Originaire d'Espagne, il serait arrivé en France au Moyen Âge.

Die Grenache ist eine rote Rebsorte und die vierthäufigst angebaute der Welt mit einer geschätzten Rebfläche von mindestens 240.000 Hektar. In Frankreich heißt sie auch Grenache noire, in Spanien Garnacha, in Katalonien Garnatxa und auf Sardinien Cannonau. Weitere Anbaugebiete sind die italienischen Regionen Toskana (unter dem Namen Alicante), Sizilien, Kalabrien und die Insel Ischia (wo die Sorte Guarnaccia genannt wird). Ferner wird Grenache in Australien, Argentinien und Kalifornien angebaut.

Grenache é uma uva tinta da família das Vitis Viniferas. Se adapta bem ao clima quente e seco, sendo utilizada na produção de vinhos na França, Espanha, América do sul, Austrália e Califórnia.
