Greek Orthodox Church

Greek Orthodox Church (Greek: Hellēnorthódoxē Ekklēsía) can refer to any of several hierarchical churches within the larger group of mutually recognizing Eastern Orthodox churches. Any Eastern Orthodox church that is ethnically Greek and uses a Greek liturgy may be considered "Greek Orthodox". The Church of Greece (Greek: Ekklēsía tês Helládos, IPA: /ekli'sia tis e'laðos/) is one of the fifteen autocephalous Eastern Orthodox churches which make up the Eastern Orthodox Communion. Today it is one of the most important autocephalous, or ecclesiastically independent, churches of the Eastern Orthodox communion. Its canonical territory encompasses the pre-1833 borders of Greece, approximately half of Greek territory (the rest of Greece is subject to the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople, however due to an arrangement agreed between the churches of Athens and Constantinople, most of those dioceses are de facto administered as part of the Church of Greece for practical reasons).

L'Église orthodoxe de Grèce est une juridiction autocéphale canonique de l'Église orthodoxe. L'appellation Église orthodoxe grecque est impropre car elle peut s'appliquer à trois ou quatre autres Églises orthodoxes autocéphales. Le chef de cette Église est Hiéronyme II d'Athènes, avant son élection Hiéronyme de Thèbes, qui porte le titre d'Archevêque d'Athènes et de toute la Grèce. Il est à la fois le chef, responsable de l'archevêché d'Athènes (l'archidiocèse s'étend sur 18 municipalités de l'Attique), et le primat chargé de présider le Saint-Synode de l'Église de Grèce (77 évêques).

Die Kirche von Griechenland unterstand ursprünglich dem Ökumenischen Patriarchat von Konstantinopel, erklärte sich aber 1833 als autokephal, was 1850 vom Patriarchen auch anerkannt wurde. Die Kirche gliedert sich in 77 Diözesen (inklusive des Erzbistums Athen, außer Kreta, dem hl. Berg Athos und dem Dodekanes), denen jeweils ein Metropolit vorsteht. Das kirchliche Oberhaupt der Kirche von Griechenland ist der Erzbischof von Athen und ganz Griechenland. Der Kirche gehören etwa 9 Millionen orthodoxe Christen an.

Grecki Kościół Prawosławny to jeden z kanonicznych kościołów prawosławnych. Liczbę wiernych należących do tego Kościoła szacuje się na 10 milionów. Skupia on większość prawosławnych mieszkańców Grecji. Do Kościoła tego należą również niektóre parafie prawosławne w Europie Zachodniej i Stanach Zjednoczonych, skupiające przeważnie grecką diasporę. Na czele Kościoła stoi arcybiskup Aten i całej Hellady (obecnie arcybiskup Hieronim). Do Greckiego Kościoła Prawosławnego należy około 9000 tysięcy świątyń i 300 monasterów (nie licząc Św. Góry Athos). Administracyjnie Kościół podzielony jest na 81 diecezji. Dwadzieścia z nich (położonych w Grecji północnej i na wyspach) znajduje się nominalnie w jurysdykcji patriarchy Konstantynopola. Diecezje Krety i Dodekanezu, choć położone na terytorium Grecji, znajdują się pod jurysdykcją patriarchatu ekumenicznego i nie należą do Greckiego Kościoła Prawosławnego.
