Greek (language)

Greek ( or simply — "Hellenic") has a documented history of 3,500 years, the longest of any single language in the Indo-European language family. It is also one of the earliest attested Indo-European languages, with fragmentary records in Mycenaean dating back to the 15th or 14th century BC, making it the world's oldest recorded living language. Today, it is spoken by approximately 15–25 million people in Greece(official), Cyprus(official), Albania, Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Italy, Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Egypt, Jordan and emigrant communities around the world, including Australia, United States, Canada, Germany and elsewhere. Greek was written in the Greek alphabet (the first to introduce vowels) since the 9th century BC in Greece (before that in Linear B), and the 4th century BC in Cyprus (before that in Cypriot syllabary). Greek literature has a continuous history of nearly three thousand years.

Die griechische Sprache ( ( ), ()) ist eine indogermanische Sprache, die einen eigenen Zweig dieser Sprachfamilie darstellt. Das in der Antike verwendete und heute noch an den Schulen gelehrte Altgriechische und das heute in Griechenland gesprochene Neugriechische sind verschiedene Sprachstufen der griechischen Sprache.

Język grecki albo greka —  język indoeuropejski z rodziny helleńskiej, w starożytności ważny język basenu Morza Śródziemnego. W cywilizacji Zachodu zaadaptowany obok łaciny jako język terminologii naukowej, wywarł wpływ na wszystkie współczesne języki europejskie, a także część pozaeuropejskich i starożytnych. Od X wieku p.n.e. zapisywany jest alfabetem greckim. Obecnie, jako język nowogrecki, pełni funkcję języka urzędowego w Grecji i Cyprze. Jest też jednym z języków oficjalnych Unii Europejskiej. Po grecku mówi współcześnie około 15 milionów ludzi.
