Great Britain
Great Britain or Britain (, Scottish Gaelic: Breatainn Mhòr, ) is an island situated to the northwest of Continental Europe. It is the ninth largest island in the world, the largest European island, and the largest of the British Isles. With a population of about 60.0 million people in mid-2009, it is the third most populous island in the world, after Java and Honshu. Great Britain is surrounded by over 1,000 smaller islands and islets. The island of Ireland lies to its west. Politically, Great Britain may also refer to the island itself together with a number of surrounding islands which comprise the territory of England, Scotland and Wales.

Gran Bretaña
Gran Bretaña es la mayor de las Islas Británicas, un archipiélago ubicado al noroeste de Europa. Es parte del territorio del Reino Unido de Gran Bretaña e Irlanda del Norte. Políticamente, Gran Bretaña está dividida en tres naciones históricas: Inglaterra, Gales y Escocia.
Geográficamente, Gran Bretaña es la isla más grande del archipiélago de las Islas Británicas. Su superficie es de 229.850 km². También es la isla más grande de Europa, y la octava más grande del mundo. En cuanto a población, es la más poblada después de Java (Indonesia) y Honshu (Japón).
El nombre de «Gran Bretaña» procede del latino Britannia, usado por los romanos para denominar a una provincia que correspondía aproximadamente a la Inglaterra actual. La etimología de este término ha sido controvertida, pero, en general, se piensa que es probable que sea un derivado de la palabra céltica britani ('pintado'), ya que los habitantes de estas islas se pintaban la piel.

Reino Unido
El Reino Unido de Gran Bretaña e Irlanda del Norte, o simplemente Reino Unido (incorrectamente llamado Gran Bretaña o Inglaterra) es un país y un estado soberano ubicado al noroeste de la Europa Continental. Su territorio, con capital en Londres, está formado geográficamente por la isla de Gran Bretaña, el noreste de la isla de Irlanda y pequeñas islas adyacentes. Irlanda del Norte es la única parte del Reino con una frontera terrestre, que la separa de la República de Irlanda. Aparte de esta frontera, el Reino Unido está rodeado al norte y al oeste por el océano Atlántico, al este por el Mar del Norte, al sur por el Canal de la Mancha y al oeste por el mar de Irlanda. La isla más grande, Gran Bretaña, está unida a Francia por el Eurotúnel.
