Gordon Brown

James Gordon Brown (born 20 February 1951) is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. He took office on 27 June 2007, three days after becoming leader of the Labour Party. Prior to this he served as the Chancellor of the Exchequer in Tony Blair's government from 1997 to 2007, becoming the United Kingdom's longest serving Chancellor since Nicholas Vansittart in the early 19th century. He also holds the positions of First Lord of the Treasury, the Minister for the Civil Service and has a Ph.D. in history from the University of Edinburgh. He has been a Member of Parliament, for Dunfermline East and then Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath, since 1983.

Damit ist er ex officio Erster Lord des Schatzamtes, sowie Mitglied des Privy Council. Zudem ist Brown Vorsitzender der Labour Party.

James Gordon Brown (ur. 20 lutego 1951 w Glasgow) - brytyjski polityk, premier Wielkiej Brytanii od 27 czerwca 2007 r., lider Partii Pracy od 24 czerwca 2007 r., były minister finansów Wielkiej Brytanii (2 maja 1997 - 27 czerwca 2007). Od 1983 r. jest członkiem Izby Gmin. W latach 1983-2005 reprezentował okręg wyborczy Dunfermline East w Fife w Szkocji, a od 2005 r. okręg wyborczy Kirkcadly and Cowdenbeath.

È succeduto a Tony Blair il 27 giugno 2007, al termine di un "processo di successione" che lo aveva visto, prima, assumere la carica di capo del partito. Dal 2 maggio 1997 al giorno della nomina a premier è stato Cancelliere dello Scacchiere del Regno Unito (solo Nicholas Vansittart rimase in carica più a lungo dal 1812 al 1823). Ha rappresentato al Parlamento il collegio di Dunfermline East dalle Elezioni generali britanniche del 1983 fino all'abolizione di quest'ultimo per le elezioni del 2005, in cui è stato eletto nel nuovo collegio di "Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath", che comprende parte del vecchio Dunfermline East. La sua prima Conference laburista da leader e da premier è quella scvoltasi a Bournemouth nel settembre 2007 dove ha illustrato il programma del suo governo.
