A good manufacturing practice (GMP) is a production and testing practice that helps to ensure a quality product. Many countries have legislated that pharmaceutical and medical device companies must follow GMP procedures, and have created their own GMP guidelines that correspond with their legislation. Basic concepts of all of these guidelines remain more or less similar to the ultimate goals of safeguarding the health of the patient as well as producing good quality medicine, medical devices or active pharmaceutical products. In the U.S. a drug may be deemed adulterated if it passes all of the specifications tests but is found to be manufactured in a condition which violates current good manufacturing guidelines. Therefore, complying with GMP is a mandatory aspect in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Unter GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice, „Gute Herstellungspraktik“) versteht man Richtlinien zur Qualitätssicherung der Produktionsabläufe und -umgebung in der Produktion von Arzneimitteln, Wirkstoffen und Medizinprodukten, aber auch bei Lebens- und Futtermitteln. In der pharmazeutischen Herstellung spielt die Qualitätssicherung eine zentrale Rolle, da hier Qualitätsabweichungen direkte Auswirkungen auf die Gesundheit der Verbraucher haben können. Ein GMP-gerechtes Qualitätsmanagementsystem dient der Gewährleistung der Produktqualität und der Erfüllung der für die Vermarktung verbindlichen Anforderungen der Gesundheitsbehörden.

Good Manufacturing Practice (God tillverkningssed, förkortas GMP) är ett regelverk som styr tillverkning, inklusive packning, av läkemedel, livsmedel och hälsokost. Bland annat måste varje tillverkad sats godkännas av en Qualified Person (QP). Avvikelser från specifikationen (t.ex. fel som uppstått under produktionen) måste utredas enligt systemet Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA).
