Gilwell Park

Gilwell Park is a camp site and activity centre for Scouting groups, as well as a training and conference centre for Scout Leaders. The 44 hectare (109 acre) site is located in Sewardstonebury, Epping Forest, close to Chingford, London. In the late Middle Ages the area was farm, growing to a wealthy estate that fell into disrepair towards 1900. It was bought in 1919 by Scout Commissioner William De Bois Maclaren and given to The Scout Association of the United Kingdom to provide camping facilities to London Scouts, and training facilities for Scouters. As Scout Leaders from all countries of the world have come to Gilwell Park for their Wood Badge training, it is one of the great landmarks of the world Scouting movement.

Der Gilwell Park ist ein Lagerplatz der britischen Pfadfinderbewegung und dient auch als Ausbildungszentrum für Pfadfinderleiter. Das 44 ha große Gelände befindet sich in Sewardstonebury, Epping Forest in der Nähe von Chingford, London.Bereits im späten Mittelalter befand sich auf dem Gelände ein Bauernhof, der aber gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts verfiel. 1919 wurde der Gilwell Park von William De Bois Maclaren der Scout Association geschenkt, um nahe London einen Lagerplatz zur Verfügung zu haben und auch Kurse für Leiter anbieten zu können. Viele Pfadfinder aus der ganzen Welt haben ihre Woodbadge-Ausbildung dort abgeschlossen, das Gelände ist heute eines der wichtigsten Zentren der Pfadfinderbewegung.

Per ragioni di capienza il jamboree del centenario dello scautismo (agosto 2007) si svolgerà nel vicino Hylands Park, a Chelmsford (Essex).
