Ghent

Ghent (; Gent in Dutch; Gand [] in French, formerly Gaunt in English) is a city and a municipality located in Flanders, Belgium. It is the capital and biggest city of the East Flanders province. The city started as a settlement at the confluence of the Rivers Scheldt and Lys and became in the Middle Ages one of the largest and richest cities of northern Europe. Today it is a busy city with a port and a university. The city is connected to the sea by the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, it lies at the intersection of the European highways E17 and E40 and it has the third busiest railway station in Belgium.

Gand (en néerlandais Gent) est une ville flamande de Belgique située au confluent de la Lys et de l’Escaut, chef-lieu de la province de Flandre-Orientale. Gent (nl. [], franz. Gand [], engl. Ghent []) ist die Hauptstadt der belgischen Provinz Ostflandern und des Arrondissements Gent. Die Gemeinde besteht aus den Teilgemeinden Afsnee, Desteldonk, Drongen, Gent, Gentbrugge, Ledeberg, Mariakerke, Mendonk, Oostakker, Sint-Amandsberg, Sint-Denijs-Westrem, Sint-Kruis-Winkel, Wondelgem und Zwijnaarde. An der Universität Gent studieren 28.000 Studenten. Gent hat 233.000 Einwohner und ein Bevölkerungswachstum von 0,6%.

Gandawa (flam. Gent, fr. Gand), miasto w północno-zachodniej części Belgii, w regionie Flandrii, stolica prowincji Flandria Wschodnia. Leży przy ujściu rzeki Leie (fr. Lys) do Skaldy, przez kanał Terneuzen ma dostęp do Morza Północnego. Tworzy aglomerację, w skład której, prócz Gandawy, wchodzi 6 miast, największe z nich: Sint-Amandsberg, Gentbrugge. W mieście działa polski konsulat honorowy. Gminy tworzące Gandawę to: Gandawa - Centrum, Mariakerke, Drongen, Wondelgem, Sint-Amandsberg, Oostakker, Desteldonk, Mendonk, Sint-Kruis-Winkel, Ledeberg, Gentbrugge, Afsnee, Sint-Denijs-Westrem i Zwijnaarde.

Gand (Gent in  neerlandese, Guanto in italiano arcaico, sebbene sia maggiormente utilizzato il toponimo francese Gand) è una città del Belgio, capoluogo delle Fiandre orientali. Nel 2005 contava 230 951 abitanti (terza città del Belgio). Si estende su una superficie di 156.18 km².Importante nodo ferroviario, dispone anche di un porto marittimo che, attraverso una serie di canali, si collega al Mare del Nord. Fu la capitale dell'antica contea delle Fiandre, spesso rivale di Bruges, e città natale di Carlo V.
