Gestalt (niem. postać) pierwotnie stanowiła zaproponowaną przed II wojną światową w Niemczech teorię percepcji, alternatywną do innych znanych i akceptowanych na początku XX wieku. Ze względu na swoje odmienne od innych, teorii, podejście do opisu zjawiska percepcji doczekała się kontynuacji i została rozwinięta.

La psicologia della Gestalt (dove la parola  tedesca Gestalt significa forma), detta anche psicologia della forma, è una corrente psicologica riguardante la percezione e l'esperienza che nacque e si sviluppò agli inizi del XX secolo in Germania (nel periodo tra gli anni '10 e gli anni '30), per poi proseguire la sua articolazione negli USA, dove i suoi principali esponenti si erano trasferiti nel periodo delle persecuzioni naziste.
