Gerrard Winstanley

Gerrard Winstanley (1609 - September 10, 1676) was an English Protestant religious reformer and political activist during the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell. Winstanley was aligned with the group known as the True Levellers for their beliefs, based upon Christian communism, and as the Diggers for their actions because they took over public lands and dug them over to plant crops.

Gerrard Winstanley (* 1609 in Wigan, Lancashire; † 10. September 1676) war ein  protestantischer Reformer und politischer Aktivist in England. Er führte zur Zeit des Protektorats (1649–1658) von Oliver Cromwell die Gruppe der True Levellers („wahre Gleichmacher“) an, die von ihren Gegnern abfällig Digger - „Buddler“ - genannt wurden. Sie besetzten und bearbeiteten öffentliche Ländereien und verteilten die Erträge kostenlos an Bedürftige, um damit für eine umfassende Landreform und das Gemeineigentum zu werben. Diesen Frühkommunismus begründete Winstanley ausschließlich aus der Bibel heraus.

Gerrard Winstanley (1609 - 10 de Setembro de 1676) foi um reformador religioso protestante inglês e um activista político durante o protetorado de Oliver Cromwell. Winstanley era alinhado pelo grupo conhecido como dos True Levellers, pelas suas crenças baseadas no comunismo cristão e pelas suas ações como líder dos Diggers, os quais tomaram o controle de terras públicas para as cavar e cultivar.
