Geographia (Ptolemy)

The Geographia is  Ptolemy's main work besides the Almagest. It is a compilation of what was known about the world's geography in the Roman Empire of the 2nd century. Ptolemy relied mainly on the work of an earlier geographer, Marinos of Tyre, and on gazetteers of the Roman and ancient Persian empire, but most of his sources beyond the perimeter of the Empire were unreliable.

La Géographie ou Manuel de géographie (en grec ancien Γεωγραφικὴ Ὑφήγηδις, latinisé en Geographike Hyphegesis, en latin Geographia ou anciennement Cosmographia) est un traité rédigé par Ptolémée vers l'an 150. Cette Introduction géographique à la cartographie est une compilation des connaissances sur la géographie du monde à l’époque de l’empire romain, et dont la redécouverte en Europe au permit de relancer l'étude de la géographie mathématique et de la cartographie.

Die Geographike Hyphegesis ist ein von Klaudios Ptolemäus um das Jahr 150 erstellter Atlas. Er beruht in Teilen auf älteren Quellen, die heute verloren sind, so etwa auf den Arbeiten des Marinos von Tyros.
