Gentile
The term Gentile (from Latin gentilis, by the French "gentil", female: "gentille", meaning of or belonging to a clan or tribe) is used by English translators for the Hebrew, גוי (goy) and נכרי (nokhri) in the Hebrew Bible and the Greek word ἔθνη (éthnē) in the New Testament.

Gentils (religion)
Gentils, du latin Gentiles (les « nations »), est la traduction habituelle de l'hébreu Goyim, nations, qui finit par désigner les non-Juifs. Les auteurs chrétiens ont aussi employé ce mot pour désigner les païens.

Gentio
A palavra gentio designa um não-israelita e deriva do termo Latim "gens" (significando "clã" ou um "grupo de famílias") e é muitas vezes usada no plural. Os tradutores cristãos da Bíblia usaram esta palavra para designar colecticamente os povos e nações distintos do povo Israelita.
A palavra é especialmente importante em relatos sobre a História do Cristianismo, para designar os povos Europeus que gradualmente se converteram à nova religião, sob a influência do apóstolo Paulo de Tarso (São Paulo) e outros. O próprio São Paulo nascera na actual Turquia mas tinha sido educado no Judaísmo.
