Genfersee

Lake Geneva or Lake Léman (French Lac Léman, le Léman, or Lac de Genève) is the second largest freshwater lake in Central Europe (after Lake Balaton). 60% of it comes under the jurisdiction of Switzerland (cantons of Vaud, Geneva, and Valais), and 40% under France (Haute-Savoie).The crescent-shaped lake, formed by a withdrawing glacier, narrows around Yvoire on the southern shore, the lake can thus be divided into the "Grand Lac" (Large Lake) to the east and the "Petit Lac" (Small Lake) to the west.It lies on the course of the Rhône River. The river has its source at the Rhone Glacier near the Grimsel Pass to the east of the lake and flows down through the Canton of Valais, entering the lake between Villeneuve and St. Gingolph, before flowing slowly towards its egress at Geneva. Other tributaries are La Dranse, L'Aubonne, La Morges, Venoge, and Veveyse.

Le lac Léman ou lac de Genève est un lac d'Europe occidentale. Son nom, probablement d'origine celtique, nous est parvenu via le latin. Il a souvent varié au fil du temps : lacus Lemanus, ou encore lac de Genève, puis enfin Léman.

Der Genfersee oder Lac Léman (auch franz. Lac de Genève), auch Genfer See (Schreibweise in Deutschland) ist der grösste Französisch-Schweizer See und liegt im Südwesten der Schweiz an der Grenze zu Frankreich. Er ist nach dem Plattensee in Ungarn der zweitgrösste See Mitteleuropas. Der Genfersee liegt , ist 582 km² gross (wovon 348 km² auf Schweizer und 234 km² auf französisches Staatsgebiet entfallen) und an der tiefsten Stelle  310 m tief. Er ist damit auch der tiefste See Frankreichs. Sein durchschnittlicher Wasserinhalt liegt bei etwa 89 km³, was ihn zum wasserreichsten See Mitteleuropas macht.

Il Lago Lemano, o Lago di Ginevra, in lingua francese: "Lac Léman" o "Lac de Genève", è il maggiore lago dell'Europa occidentale e si trova al confine tra la Svizzera, nel cui territorio si trova il 60 ella superficie, e la Francia. Lo specchio d'acqua ha una forma allungata, tipica di un lago glaciale subalpino, a mezza luna in direzione est-ovest con la concavità verso la sponda meridionale, quella francese.
