Gardner's Equation

An empirically derived equation which describes the relationship between bulk densities and acoustic velocities of rocks: p = 0.23v0.25 The equation was derived by G.H.F. Gardner et al. from laboratory and field observations of brine-saturated (nonevaporite) rock types. Experience has shown that the equation (or some modification of it) is valid for many sedimentary basins of the world.
