Ganga

The Ganges (, also Ganga , Devanāgarī: , in most Indian languages, ) is a major river in the Indian subcontinent flowing east through the eponymous plains of northern India into Bangladesh. The 2,510 km (1,557 mi) long river begins at the  Gangotri Glacier in the Indian state of Uttarakhand in the central Himalayas and drains into the Bay of Bengal through its vast delta in the Sunderbans. It is held sacred by Hindus and is worshipped in its personified form as the goddess Ganga.

Gangâ est la déesse du Gange, fille de l'apsarâ Menakâ et d'Himavant, le roi de l'Himalaya. C'est la mère de Kârttikeya - Skanda - avec Agni et qui est appelé par suite Gangâputra. Elle est aussi la mère de huit garçons avec le roi Shântanu, mais lors de leur séparation, elle les noya tous sauf un, Bhîshma.

Le Gange - forme francisée de Gangâ - est un fleuve important (sa longueur varie suivant les sources de quelque 2 500 à quelque 3 000 km) dans l'Inde du Nord. Son bassin couvre 907 000 km² et son delta commun avec celui du Brahmapoutre 110 000 km². Le Gange fait partie des sept rivières sacrées de l'Inde.

Ganges, (hindi Ganga) – rzeka na Półwyspie Indyjskim w Azji. Przepływa przez Indie i Bangladesz. Jej długość wynosi 2700 km, a powierzchnia dorzecza 1125 tys. km² (z  Brahmaputrą 2060 km²).
