The GNU Core Utilities or coreutils is a package of GNU software containing many of the basic tools, such as cat, ls, and rm, needed for Unix-like operating systems. It is a combination of a number of earlier packages, including textutils, shellutils, and fileutils, along with some other miscellaneous utilities.

Die GNU core utilities, kurz coreutils, sind eine vom GNU-Projekt unter der General Public License veröffentlichte Sammlung von grundlegenden Befehlszeilen-Programmen wie beispielsweise das zum Auflisten von Dateien verwendete ls. Sie fassen die früher einzeln angebotenen textutils (für Texte), shellutils (für die Shell), und fileutils (für Dateien) zusammen und orientieren sich am POSIX-Standard. Die Sammlung stellt für GNU/Linux die Funktionalität der üblichen Unix-Kommandos zur Verfügung und ist für viele verschiedene Betriebssysteme verfügbar, insbesondere für Unix und über cygwin auch für Microsoft Windows.

Coreutils (ou GNU Core Utilities) est un paquetage du projet GNU contenant de nombreux outils basiques tels que cat, ls, et rm nécessaires pour les systèmes d'exploitation de type Unix (dont notamment GNU/linux). C'est une combinaison de paquetages plus anciens, incluant notamment textutils (pour le texte), shellutils (pour les scripts), et fileutils (pour les fichiers).

GNU Coreutils - podstawowe narzędzia do obsługi plików, powłoki i tekstu w systemie GNU. Zawiera narzędzia, których obecność jest oczekiwana w każdym systemie operacyjnym.
