.geo is a generic top-level domain proposed by SRI International to be used to associate Internet resources with geographical locations, via a system of "georegistrars" and "georegistries" with hierarchical addresses representing locations in a grid encircling the Earth. These addresses are not intended to be typed in directly by end-users (and hence are "messy" strings like acme.2e5n.10e30n.geo) but rather, would be used "behind the scenes" by software looking things up by location (possibly driven by GPS positioning in mobile devices).

Geo était une marque de voiture qui appartenait à General Motors. La marque est apparue en 1989 aux États-Unis et elle fut absorbée par Chevrolet en 1998. À l'origine, Geo avait été formé pour rivaliser avec les véhicules importés sur le marché nord-américain, qui gagnaient du terrain chaque année. Voici les différents modèles de Geo au fil des années:Geo Metro, une sous-compacte de type bicorps (hatchback) disponible avec deux ou quatre portes et une décapotable deux places. C'était pratiquement le même véhicule que la Suzuki Swift, pontiac firefly et chevrolet sprint.Geo Spectrum, une compacte qui venait du modèle Isuzu Gemini.Geo Tracker, un véhicule tout-terrain basé sur le Suzuki Sidekick.Geo Prizm, une berline basée sur la Toyota Corolla.Geo Storm, un coupé basé sur la Isuzu Impulse.

Geo było marką samochodów należącą do General Motors Corporation (GM), używaną na rynku amerykańskim w latach 1989-1998.Od 1989 roku pod tą nazwą GM produkował samochody, które miały rywalizować na rynku amerykańskim z małymi pojazdami z importu. Pod marką "Geo" koncern GM sprzedawał również na rynku północnoamerykańskim samochody produkowane przez współpracujące z nim japońskie firmy Suzuki (Geo Metro, Geo Tracker) i Toyota (Geo Prizm). W 1998 roku marka ta została wchłonięta przez Chevrolet. W 2004 roku z uwagi na malejące zainteresowanie klientów zaprzestano produkcji kontynuatora linii Geo - Trackera.

.geo è stato proposto come  dominio di primo livello generico dalla SRI International, ma non ha ricevuto l'approvazione da parte dell'ICANN. L'uso previsto era come associazione fra un luogo del pianeta e la risorsa Internet. Ad esempio un indirizzo poteva essere luogo.2e7n.22e34n.geo, in cui erano indicate il nome della locazione e le sue coordinate. L'indirizzo non doveva essere immesso dall'utente, ma era solo un metodo di raccordo, ad esempio, da un GPS ad un sito web con informazioni geografiche. Questo sistema è stato criticato in quanto la destinazine d'uso può essere coperta da sistemi già esistenti. Ad esempio con sottodomini di .arpa, anziché creare un nuovo dominio; oppure inserendo dei metadata opportuni all'interno dei siti web.
