GENIE

GEnie was an online service created by a General Electric business - GEIS (now GXS) that ran from 1985 through the end of 1999. At its peak in 1991, GEnie claimed around 400,000 users. Peak simultaneous usage was around 10,000 users. It was one of the pioneering services in the field, though eventually replaced by the Internet and graphics-based services, most notably AOL.[1]

Genie is the English term for the Arabic جني (jinnie). The word “jinn” literally means anything which has the connotation of concealment, invisibility, seclusion, and remoteness. In pre-Islamic Arabian folklore and in Islamic Culture, a jinni (also “djinni” or “djini”) is a member of the jinn (or “djinn”), generally thought to be a race of supernatural creatures.

Les jinns (parfois orthographié djinns [ʤin: / gin: / ɣin:]), sont des créatures du folklore sémitique. Ils sont en général invisibles, pouvant prendre différentes formes (végétale, animale, ou anthropomorphe) ; ils ont une capacité d'influence spirituelle et mentale sur le genre humain (contrôle psychique : possession), mais ne l'utilisent pas forcément.

Nagroda Genie (Genie Award) − nagrody przyznawane przez Kanadyjską Akademię Filmową i Telewizyjną. Nagroda przyznawana jest od 1949 roku do 1979 roku (pod nazwą "Kanadyjska Nagroda Filmowa"). Nagrodę reaktywowano w 1980 roku i rozdawano już pod nazwą "Genie Award". Statuetki przyznawane są w 18 kategoriach.

Dżinn (duch) - postać religii Arabów przed islamemDżinn (powieść) - książka Grahama Mastertona Dżinny (ar. جن) - demony i duchy powstałe z czystego ognia bez dymu (w niektórych wersjach wierzeń z czystego płomienia oraz obłoku pary), które posiadają nadnaturalną potęgę i są niewidzialne, mogą jednak przyjmować dowolną postać (człowieka, zwierzęcia lub potwora). Utożsamiały one wrogie człowiekowi siły natury. Uważano ich za mieszkańców pustyni. Wiara w dżinny stanowiła bardzo istotny składnik religii Arabów w okresie przed islamem.
