GAVAR

Gavar (Armenian: Գավառ), also known as Kyavar or Nor Bayezid is a city and provincial capital of the Armenian province of Gegharkunik.Gavar is a lovely city near Lake Sevan in the Armenian highlands. The city is home to about 25,000 people but much of the Soviet era infrastructure has failed and the industrial capacity has floundered. However, the local economy is improving at a slow rate. Some business people are returning to Gavar from abroad and there is hope the new mayor will greatly improve the city's public works.

Гава́р — город в Армении, столица области Гехаркуник. Расположен на реке Гаварагет в 8 км от её впадения в озеро Севан в 90 км к северо-востоку от Еревана. На месте Гавара с давних пор существовало село Кавар, разоренное в 1736 г. Надир-шахом; после турецкой войны 1828—29 гг. сюда переселились армяне из турецкого города Баязета. В 1850 г. при образовании Эриванской губернии село Кавар было возведено на степень уездного города и переименовано в Ново-Баязет. В 1936 стал называться Нор-Баязет. В 1959 переименован в Камо по имени революционера С.А.Тер-Петросяна (партийный псевдоним Камо). В 1996 получил современное название.
