Garnishment
A garnishment is a means of collecting a monetary judgment against a defendant by ordering a third party (the garnishee) to pay money, otherwise owed to the defendant, directly to the plaintiff.

Utmätning
Utmätning är en juridisk term och innebär att en borgenär, efter att ha skaffat sig en exekutionstitel, begär att kronofogdemyndigheten skall ta egendom ifrån gäldenären. Kronofogdemyndigheten kan också besluta om utmätning av lön, vilket innebär att arbetsgivaren tar ett bestämt belopp från den anställdas lön och betalar in den summan till Kronofogdemyndigheten.

2. (law) (a) warning, or legal notice, to one to appear and give information to the court on any matter. (b) warning to a person in whose hands the effects of another are attached, not to pay the money or deliver the goods to the defendant, but to appear in court and give information as garnishee.
