The Group of Eight (G8) is a forum for the governments of eight large economies. (It excludes some members of the actual eight largest, such as China, Brazil and India). The forum originated with a 1975 summit hosted by France that brought together representatives of six governments: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, thus leading to the name Group of Six or G6. The summit became known as the Group of Seven or G7 the following year with the addition of Canada. In 1997, Russia was added to group which then became known as the G8. The European Union is represented within the G8 but cannot host or chair summits.

Die Gruppe der Acht (G8) bezeichnet sich selbst als ein „Abstimmungsforum“, das konstruktiv Fragen bezüglich der Weltpolitik in gemeinsamer Verantwortung und im Konsens bearbeitet. Ihr gehören neben Deutschland, den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika, Japan, Großbritannien, Kanada, Frankreich und Italien (G7) auch Russland an. Sie ist aus der Gruppe der Sieben hervorgegangen, der Russland noch nicht angehörte. Daneben ist in dem Gremium auch die Europäische Kommission mit einem Beobachterstatus vertreten.

Le Groupe des huit (G8) est un groupe de discussion et de partenariat économique de huit pays parmi les plus puissants économiquement du monde : les États-Unis, le Japon, l'Allemagne, le Royaume-Uni, la France, l'Italie, le Canada, et la Russie. Ensemble, les pays du G8 représentent 61% de l'économie mondiale.

Group of Eight (G8) är en grupp som består av åtta stora industrialiserade ekonomier, nämligen Frankrike, Italien, Japan, Kanada, Ryssland, Storbritannien, Tyskland och USA.

Grupa siedmiu najbardziej uprzemysłowionych państw świata i Rosji, (ang. Group of Seven and Russia, niem. Sieben führende Industrieländer und Russland, ros. Большая восьмёрка) G8 - to koalicja najbardziej wpływowych państw świata. W skład grupy wchodzą: Wielka Brytania, Francja, Niemcy, Włochy, Japonia i Stany Zjednoczone (G6, 1975), Kanada (G7, 1976) i Rosja (1998). Szczytowi G8 towarzyszy Unia Europejska. Przywódcy państw G8 spotykają się na corocznych szczytach gospodarczych i politycznych. Szczyty te są okazją do protestów organizowanych przez antyglobalistów. Lokalizacja szczytu zmienia się rotacyjnie według następującej kolejności: Francja, Stany Zjednoczone, Wielka Brytania, Niemcy, Japonia, Włochy, Kanada, Rosja. Ostatni, 33. szczyt G8 odbył się w 2007 roku w Heiligendamm  w Niemczech. Obecnie G8 przewodzą Niemcy, które zastąpiły Rosję.
