Augustin-Jean Fresnel
Augustin-Jean Fresnel ( ; ; 1788–1827), was a French engineer who contributed significantly to the establishment of the theory of wave optics. Fresnel studied the behaviour of light both theoretically and experimentally.

Augustin Jean Fresnel [] (* 10. Mai 1788 in Broglie (Eure); † 14. Juli 1827 in Ville-d’Avray bei Paris) war ein französischer Physiker und Ingenieur, der wesentlich zur Begründung der Wellentheorie des Lichts und zur Optik beitrug. Er studierte sowohl theoretisch als auch experimentell das Verhalten von Licht.

Augustin Jean Fresnel
Augustin Jean Fresnel (ur. 12 marca 1788 - zm. 14 lipca 1827 w Ville-d'Avray koło Paryża), francuski inżynier i fizyk.
Przez wiele lat pracował przy budowach i remontach dróg i mostów; prowadził prace z zakresu optyki o fundamentalnym znaczeniu; był jednym z twórców falowej teorii światła. W 1822 roku odkrył i wyjaśnił polaryzację kołową i eliptyczną światła; wytłumaczył zjawisko skręcenia płaszczyzny polaryzacji; zbadał zjawisko przechodzenia światła przez granicę 2 dielektryków i w 1823 roku sformułował jego prawa; opracował teorię dwójłomności kryształów i aberracji rocznej światła gwiazd; przeprowadził doświadczenia nad wpływem ruchu Ziemi na zjawiska optyczne, co stało się podstawą elektrodynamiki poruszających się ciał i szczególnej teorii względności.
