Franzosen werden die Staatsbürger Frankreichs genannt. Außerdem kann man die Franzosen auch als ethnische Gruppe in Frankreich und dessen ehemaligen Kolonien auffassen.Die Franzosen als ethnische Gruppe zu begreifen, ist nicht ganz unproblematisch, da es diese Kategorisierung im offiziellen Selbstverständnis der Französischen Republik nicht gibt und viele Franzosen den Gedanken ablehnen würden, dass „Franzose“ eine über die Staatsbürgerschaft hinausgehende ethnische Zuordnung ist. Man kann allerdings auf der anderen Seite nicht leugnen, dass es jenseits des offiziellen Diskurses zahlreiche Äußerungen gibt, die französischen Staatsbürgern aufgrund ihrer Hautfarbe, Religion oder ethnischen Herkunft den Status „Franzose“ absprechen. Manche Bevölkerungsteile in Frankreich wiederum, wie die Okzitanier, die Elsässer und die Korsen lehnen die Selbstbezeichnung „Franzose“ im ethnischen Sinne ab.

Francuzi – naród romański zamieszkujący głównie Francję (ok. 53 mln) a także Włochy (około 200 tys.), Wielką Brytanię (ok. 100 tys.), Katalonię (ok. 4 tys.) oraz nieliczni w Belgii, Andorze, Luksemburgu, Monako i Szwajcarii. Poza tym Francuzi żyją głównie w swoich byłych koloniach w Afryce oraz w własnych terytoriach zamorskich w Oceanii i na innych kontynentach. Około 13 milionów osób francuskiego pochodzenia mieszka w Stanach Zjednoczonych, a 6 milionów w Kanadzie. Ich ojczystym językiem jest francuski. Większość Francuzów to katolicy (chrystianizacja w II – IV wieku). Dzisiaj wielu potomków byłych emigrantów uważa się za część narodu francuskiego, są to przeważnie osoby pochodzenia afrykańskiego i arabskiego. Pozostają oni obywatelami państwa francuskiego.
