French Third Republic

The French Third Republic (in French, La Troisième République, sometimes written as La IIIe République) (1870-10 July 1940) was the political regime of France between the Second French Empire and the Vichy Regime. It was a republican parliamentary democracy that was created on 4 September 1870 following the collapse of the Empire of Napoleon III in the Franco-Prussian War. It survived until the invasion of France by the German Third Reich in 1940. Adolphe Thiers, known by the people of Paris as the repressor of the 1871 Paris Commune, recognized as "le Libérateur du Territoire", and who rallied himself to the Republic in the 1870s, called republicanism in the 1870s "the form of government that divides France least." France might have agreed about being a republic, but it never fully agreed with the Third Republic. France's longest lasting régime since before the 1789 French Revolution, the Third Republic was consigned to the history books, as unloved at the end as it had been when first created seventy years earlier. But its longevity showed that it was capable of weathering many a storm.

Après la chute de la monarchie absolue, la France a expérimenté sans succès sept régimes politiques en 80 ans. Ces difficultés contribuent à expliquer les hésitations de la chambre des députés, qui va mettre neuf ans, de 1870 à 1879, pour trouver la voie du nouveau régime. Les délibérations vont progressivement aboutir à instaurer une république parlementaire de type bicaméral, Assemblée Nationale et Sénat ayant quasiment les mêmes prérogatives.

Als Dritte Republik bezeichnet man den französischen Staat zwischen 1871 und 1940.Nach der Niederlage im Deutsch-Französischen Krieg von 1870/71, der Pariser Kommune und dem Sturz Napoléons III. war es nicht möglich, eine neue Königsdynastie einzusetzen, und so kam es eher aus Verlegenheit zur Ausrufung der Republik.Die Verfassung sah eine Legislative mit Zwei-Kammer-Parlament (Abgeordnetenkammer und Senat) vor, welche gemeinsam als Nationalversammlung einen Präsidenten mit starker Stellung gegenüber der Regierung auf sieben Jahre wählten. Allerdings war die Stellung des Präsidenten nicht ganz so stark, wie in der gaullistischen Konzeption für die Fünfte Republik. Der Ministerpräsident war abhängig von der Mehrheit im Abgeordnetenhaus, und die Kabinette wechselten recht häufig.

Terza Repubblica francese (in francese: Troisième Republique) è il nome dato alla forma di stato che si venne a costituire dopo il crollo del Secondo Impero di Napoleone III in Francia nel 1870. Era una repubblica di tipo parlamentare ed il suo primo Presidente fu Adolphe Thiers.Questa forma di governo durò in Francia per quasi settant'anni fino all'invasione tedesca del paese il 10 luglio 1940 quando il Maresciallo Philippe Pétain creò la cosiddetta Francia di Vichy.
