French Canadian or Francophone Canadian (also Canadien in Canadian English or in French) generally refers to the descendents of French colonists who arrived in New France (Canada) in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, French Canadians constitute the main French-speaking population of Canada.

Canadian French (French: Français canadien) is an umbrella term referring to the varieties of French spoken in Canada. French is the mother tongue of nearly seven million Canadians, a figure constituting roughly 22% of the national population. At the federal level it has co-official status alongside English. Provincially, it tends to have more limited status, except in the case of New Brunswick, which is officially bilingual (with English), and in Quebec, where it is the only official language. Government services are also offered in French at the provincial level in certain areas in Ontario (through the French Language Services Act) and Manitoba, and to a variable extent elsewhere. French is also co-official in the three territories. New England French, a variety spoken in parts of New England in the United States, is essentially a variety of Canadian French.

Französische Kanadier (frz. Canadiens français) bezeichnet ein historisches Kollektiv. Als Canadiens français bezeichnete sich die frankophone Bevölkerung in Québec, Ontario und in den westlichen Provinzen Kanadas (siehe Frankophone Kanadier) in etwa von der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts bis in die siebziger Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts.

Le terme « Canadiens » ou « Canadiens français » fait traditionnellement référence aux habitants du Canada qui ont pour ancêtres les colons français qui s’étaient établis sur le territoire de l’actuelle province de Québec à l’époque de la Nouvelle-France. À l’extérieur du Québec, ce terme est parfois utilisé dans un contexte contemporain pour faire référence à tous les Canadiens francophones. Cependant, au Québec le terme a été remplacé par « Québécois » depuis la révolution tranquille des années 1960.

Franko-Kanadyjczycy - ludność zamieszkująca prowincje wschodnie Kanady, dla której językiem ojczystym jest francuski. Franko-Kanadyjczycy są częścią narodu kanadyjskiego lecz zachowują przynależność do określonej części kraju i różnych kręgów kulturowych (romańskiego i germańskiego). Mają głównie korzenie francuskie, monageskie, belgijskie i szwajcarskie. Są katolikami.

Франкоканадцы — одна из двух основных культурно-языковых групп современной Канады численностью свыше 7 миллионов человек (около четверти населения страны). Франкоканадцы распадаются на несколько культурно-языковых подгрупп, только одна из которых — квебекцы — преобладает в составе провинции Квебек. В остальных регионах, как и в целом в Канаде, большинство населения составляют англоканадцы. Большинство франкоканадцев исповедует католичество, родным для большинства из них является французский язык, официальный статус которого на федеральном уровне закреплён на территории всей Канады. История франкоканадцев как народа насчитывает более 400 лет, наполненных борьбой за выживание в условиях ассимиляции и довольно жёсткой дискриминации.
