Free and open source software
Free and open-source software (F/OSS, FOSS) or free/libre/open-source software (FLOSS) is software that is both free software and open source. It is liberally licensed to grant users the right to use, copy, study, change, and improve its design through the availability of its source code. This approach has gained both momentum and acceptance as the potential benefits have been increasingly recognized by both individuals and corporations.

FLOSS
FLOSS (ang. Free Libre/Open Source Software, także FOSS, F/OSS) - neutralny skrót pozwalający objąć jednym mianem zarówno Wolne Oprogramowanie (ang. Free Software) jak i Otwarte Oprogramowanie (ang. Open Source), używany najczęściej w dokumentach urzędowych i oficjalnych analizach.
W praktyce każdy program na licencji zgodnej z definicją Free Software Foundation (Definicja Wolnego Oprogramowania) jest jednocześnie zgodny z bardziej liberalną definicją Open Source Initiative (Definicja Otwartego Źródła), jednak różnice w założeniach obu definicji powodują, że nurt związany z FSF i projektem GNU obstaje przy rozróżnianiu Wolnego Oprogramowania (aspekt ideowy) od Otwartego Oprogramowania (aspekt techniczny).

Free and Open Source Software
FOSS (anche F/OSS) è l'acronimo derivante dalla locuzione Free and open source software (software libero ed open source) utilizzato un tempo, nel gergo militare, dal Dipartimento della Difesa USA.
La frase è stata adottata a partire dal 2003, anno in cui l'acronimo venne usato per la prima volta.
Tale termine identifica contemporaneamente il software libero e quello opensource.

Software Free/Libero/Open-Source
Il termine Free/Libre/Open Source Software (FLOSS) è un termine ibrido di software libero e software open source, che sono aspetti diversi della stessa sostanza.
"FLOSS" fu creato da un progetto di Rishab Ghosh [1], e divenne popolare dopo che la Commissione europea nel giugno 2001 condusse uno studio sulla materia [2].
Lo scopo era non estraniare né la filosofia del free software né quella dell'open source. Si sperava che il termine semplificasse i rapporti tra i due movimenti e ne stimolasse la cooperazione. Infatti, Richard Stallman, fondatore del movimento Free Software ha pubblicamente raccomandato [3] l'uso di questo termine per coloro che, specialmente nella comunità dei ricercatori, voglia mantenersi neutrale.
