Frankisch

The Franks or Frankish people (Latin: Franci or gens Francorum) were West Germanic tribes first identified in the 3rd century as an ethnic group living north and east of the Lower Rhine. Under the Merovingian dynasty, they founded one of the Germanic monarchies which replaced the Western Roman Empire. The Frankish state consolidated its hold over large parts of western Europe by the end of the eighth century and the Carolingian Empire and its successor states were Frankish. The Salian political elite were the most active force in spreading Christianity over western Europe.

Gewürztraminer (IPA: , sounds like guh-VOORTS-truh-MEE-ner; IPA: in German), sometimes referred to as Gewürz, is an aromatic white wine grape variety that performs best in cooler climates. The variety has high natural sugar and the wines are usually off-dry, with a flamboyant bouquet of lychees. Dry Gewürztraminers may also have aromas of roses, passion fruit and floral notes. It is not uncommon to notice some spritz (fine bubbles on the inside of the glass).

Le Gewürztraminer est un cépage à grappes roses, essentiellement utilisé en Alsace pour produire le vin blanc du même nom. En Europe, on le rencontre également en Allemagne, Autriche, Italie et Suisse. Il est également appelé Savagnin rose aromatique. Son nom signifie « traminer épicé » en allemand et en alsacien. Le village de Tramin au Trentin-Tyrol du Sud ou Haut Adige semble être son berceau.

Fränkisch hat in der Umgangssprache eine andere Bedeutung als in der Linguistik: Die Umgangssprache bezeichnet mit Fränkisch die Dialekte Frankens, die in der Linguistik in etwa dem Mainfränkischen entsprechen (siehe dort). In der Linguistik wird dagegen ein viel größerer Sprachraum Fränkisch genannt; dieser Sprachraum erstreckt sich von den Niederlanden über das Rheinland, das Maintal bis ins Fichtelgebirge: siehe Fränkische Sprachen.
