Fractional Distillation

Fractional distillation is the separation of a mixture into its component parts, or fractions, such as in separating chemical compounds by their boiling point by heating them to a temperature at which several fractions of the compound will evaporate. It is a special type of distillation. Generally the component parts boil at less than 25°C from each other under a pressure of one atmosphere (ATM). If the difference in boiling points is greater than 25°C, a simple distillation is used.

La distillation fractionnée, aussi appelée rectification, est un procédé de séparation. Son but est de séparer les différents constituants d’un mélange de liquides miscibles, possédant des températures d’ébullition différentes. Pour cela, elle exploite le même principe que la distillation classique mais se distingue par l'utilisation d'une colonne de séparation, qui permet une meilleure discrimination des constituants du mélange.

La destilación fraccionada es un proceso físico utilizado en química para separar mezclas (generalmente homogéneas) de líquidos mediante el calor, y con un amplio intercambio calórico y másico entre vapores y líquidos. Se emplea principalmente cuando es necesario separar compuestos de sustancias con puntos de ebullición distintos pero cercanos. Algunos de los ejemplos más comunes son el petróleo, y la producción de etanol.

Fraktionerad destillation är en destillationsmetod som kan användas för att separera en blandning av många ämnen med liknande kokpunkter. Vid fraktionerad destillation förångas blandningen och får passera genom ett rör eller torn, kallat destillationskolonn, som har olika temperatur vid olika nivåer. I kolonnen finns också plattor på olika nivåer, där en komponent (fraktion) i blandningen kan kondensera om temperaturen på den nivån understiger fraktionens kokpunkt. Fraktionen tappas av och tas till vara. Fraktionerad destillation är bland annat en vanlig metod för att dela upp råolja i oljeraffinaderier och för att rena fram olika gaser ur flytande luft.
