Fourier analysis
Also see bottom: Basic explanation. Fourier analysis, named after
Joseph Fourier's introduction of the
Fourier series, is the decomposition of a function in terms of a sum of
sinusoidal basis functions (vs. their
frequencies) that can be recombined to obtain the original function. That process of recombining the sinusoidal basis functions is also called Fourier synthesis (in which case, Fourier analysis refers specifically to the decomposition process).

Fourier analysis
Noun
1. analysis of a periodic function into a sum of simple sinusoidal components
(synonym) harmonic analysis
(hypernym) analysis
Fourier analysis
The definition of a periodic
waveform of arbitrary shape as a summation of sine waves having specific amplitudes and phases, and having frequencies corresponding to the harmonics of the waveform being defined. Note: A Fourier analysis is particularly well suited for
communications equipment design and for predicting the performance of a given design. [
