Fleur-de-lis

The fleur-de-lis (or fleur-de-lys; plural: fleurs-de-lis) is a stylised design of an iris flower which is used both decoratively and symbolically. It may be purely ornamental or it may be "at one and the same time political, dynastic, artistic, emblematic and symbolic", especially in heraldry. While it has appeared on countless European coats of arms and flags over the centuries, the fleur-de-lis is particularly associated with the French monarchy. It is an enduring symbol of France, but, being regarded most notably as the emblem of the monarchy, was not adopted officially by any of the French republics. In North America the fleur-de-lis is often associated with areas formerly settled by France, such as Quebec and Louisiana and with the Francophones in other Canadian provinces. It is also the emblem of the Swiss Municipality of Schlieren, Zürich.

La fleur de lys (ou fleur de lis) est un meuble héraldique, c'est l'une des quatre figures les plus populaires avec les multiples croix, l'aigle et le lion. Elle est habituellement classée parmi les figures naturelles. Symbole marial, elle est devenue en France à partir du Moyen Âge l'emblème de la royauté.

Die heraldische Lilie – zumeist golden oder silbern  tingiert, ist eine gemeine Figur, bestehend aus drei stilisierten Blättern, die von einem Band zusammengehalten werden. Das mittlere Blatt ist oben und unten zugespitzt, die äußeren Blätter hängen herab und sind oben nach außen umgebogen. Bis heute gelten Lilien als Symbol für Reinheit, Mildtätigkeit und Keuschheit. Das Unicodesymbol der heraldische Lilie ist U+269C (9884) .

Fleur-de-lis, fleur-de-lys, niekiedy w archaicznej pisowni fleur-de-luce (fr. "kwiat lilii") - figura  heraldyczna w kształcie stylizowanego kwiatu lilii, najprawdopodobniej kosaćca żółtego (Iris pseudacorus). Fleur-de-lis w heraldyce łączony jest często z monarchią francuską. Został przyjęty w XI wieku przez króla Filipa I, którego wnuk Ludwik VII z kolei po raz pierwszy użył tzw. Azure semé-de-lys Or (błękitna tarcza z gęsto rozmieszczonymi niewielkimi złotymi fleurs-de-lis, tzw. usiana liliami) jako swego herbu. Znak ten zaczęto kojarzyć z Francją. Symbol w postaci trzech złotych lilii na błękitnym tle został po raz pierwszy użyty przez Karola V w 1376.
